A24 Revives Best Horror Films for Halloween: Big Screen Comeback

This October, indie film studio A24 is delivering a special treat for horror fans. A24's October Thrills & Chills Film Series will present a selection of their most popular horror films, screened every Wednesday of the month at participating AMC theaters across the United States.

The series kicks off on October 4, with a screening of Robert Eggers’ The Witch. This unsettling tale, set in Puritan times, tells the story of a young woman accused of witchcraft, played by Anya Taylor Joy. The following week, on October 11, viewers can catch Ti West’s slasher X, featuring Mia Goth in a terrifying performance. On October 18, moviegoers can experience the sci-fi horror Under the Skin, starring Scarlett Johansson in a bewildering and eerie narrative. The series concludes on October 25, with a special Director’s Cut edition of Midsommar, Ari Aster's chilling tale of a group of friends who find themselves in a bizarre Swedish midsummer festival, featuring a captivating performance by Florence Pugh.

A24 has firmly established itself as a major player in the horror genre over the past few years. Its impressive roster of releases includes 2022's X, Pearl, Men, and Bodies Bodies Bodies. The latest addition to A24's horror lineup is Talk To Me, a disturbing debut from filmmaking brothers Danny & Michael Philippou that critics are already hailing as the best horror movie of the year.

Looking ahead, A24 is set to release MaXXXine, the third and final installment of the X trilogy from director Ti West. The film once again stars Mia Goth, who this time plays Maxine, a woman pursuing her dream of stardom in Los Angeles after a near-death experience at a menacing farmhouse. Filming began earlier this year, but a release date has yet to be announced.

For UK fans who may be feeling left out, fear not. While the screenings are only available at AMC theaters in the US, you can still stream X for free on Amazon Prime, and rent Midsommar, The Witch, and Under the Skin.
